Rent receipt: free PDF template
A rent receipt records that the tenant paid a month's rent. It helps the landlord keep track of payments and helps the tenant prove they are up to date.
Here you will find what it should say, an example with fictional data, the mistakes that cause the most disputes between landlord and tenant and how to create it as a PDF from your phone.

Every month the rent is paid is a chance for misunderstandings: “I already paid you”, “it hasn't reached me”, “which month was it?”. A written receipt answers those questions in seconds. It lets the landlord keep track of payments received and gives the tenant proof of being up to date.
The receipt does not replace the lease: the lease sets the conditions, and the receipt only confirms that a specific period was paid.
Details a rent receipt must include
- Landlord (recipient): name and ID number.
- Tenant (payer): name and ID number.
- Property: the full address of the rented property.
- Period paid: the month or date range the payment covers.
- Rent amount: in figures and in words.
- Payment method and date: cash or bank transfer, and the day it was received.
- Signature of the recipient.

How often should I give a rent receipt?
It is best to give one every time a payment is received, usually every month, and for both parties to keep a copy.
Can I do it on my phone?
Yes. Use the generator, choose cash receipt, write the description as rent for the corresponding month, add the details and download the PDF.
Should I include building fees or utilities?
If the payment includes amounts other than the rent, list them separately or state in the description what the total includes, so there is no confusion about what was paid.
Does the receipt replace the lease?
No. The lease sets the conditions of the rental; the receipt only confirms that a period was paid. It is wise to keep both.
Who should sign the rent receipt?
The person who receives the money, usually the landlord or their property manager. Both parties should keep a copy.
